Saluzzo, town of art and culture
Saluzzo is located on a hill which extends in a fan shape and which overlooks the Po valley with the Monviso in the background.
It is one of the most delightful towns in Piedmont, and has succeeded in preserving the architectural and urban features of various eras within its ancient walls.
The numerous testimonies of its glorious past, being the capital of an independent Marquisate for no less than four centuries, confirms its role as a true art town.
The town is small, yet enterprising being at the centre of an extensive fertile area, highly specialized in the fruit cultivation field.
It has always acted as a tiny capital city, and it has today inherited this bent and acts a san important service centre for the entire surrounding valley area, as it has a hospital, judicial offices, a host of schools, a railway station and bus routes, as well as hosting a series of important exhibitions and markets as well as important artistic and cultural events.
Today Saluzzo has a population of 16,700 over a surface land area of 75,78 km2 and is located 340 m above sea level.
